Absolutely; at least they didn't set the full force of the Inquisition on to Galileo; where as trying to chemically remove an integral part of someone's identity didn't exactly cover the State in glory.

if there is a pardon to be given, it should be from Turing to the establishment.... not the other way round.

The people in power judge others by projection. The ignorant mob soon follow. They only dimly understand how hypocritical they are to others by their very limited world view.

NOTHING has changed, the same simpletons are still using fear and hate as weapons against 'others' who are different.

It is the latent homosexual that fears the overtly homosexual the most. A straight person does not have any fear or hate!

It will come to pass that our collective fear of boat people and the way we are treating them will make the treatment of the stolen generations of our indigenous people look quite reasonable.

It used to be with indigenous people and their children 'it was for their own good!'

The policy with boat people is decidedly harsh and punitive and patently ludicrous.

It is when good men do nothing that evil prevails.

Turing was a very gifted human being. He used his knowledge for his country and people in a very bad time. The cracking of the Enigma Code was basically due to his brilliance. He designed a very early computer using switch gear from phone exchanges.

He was repaid by exceedingly ignorant morons that thought that their own peccadilloes would render them without reputation or power. Their immediate reaction was to use the full force of the law against Alan Turing.

Their guiding light was that a foreign power or operative could compromise his loyalty due to his sexuality! So they all did it before this could happen.

Sad sad sad!

In hindsight when a foreign power offers you all the lovers you want and your lot give you the two alternatives of castration by physical or chemical means, which would you choose?

As I said absolute morons!

This is a society that incarcerated Oscar Wilde. Although Oscars mistake was to not keep his activities amongst his own class. His mistake was 'rough trade'.

Not wanting to get off topic Bert, but it was not only indigenous people who were stolen. It's not that long ago that children of any unmarried mother were likely to be stolen, often with the active assistance of a church.

Yes you are quite correct! It was still happening in the late 1970's. The methods used to get 'compliance' from the mother were medieval.

I remember visiting a girl I knew in 1968 at a nunnery whose parents had 'lost' her due to her 'being in moral danger'. The nuns treated her appallingly and we (her brother and I) plotted to get her out. She left that afternoon in my car.

The police looked for her at my place.

I will not describe what indignities she suffered with those nuns. She is still a very good friend.
