$3000 disappointment

I've done it again:rolleyes:...

While riding north the other day I stopped to fuel up in Glen Innes, took the tank bag off the bike and sat it on top of the bag I had across the pillion seat. You know where this is going don't you?

An idiot I know forgot to put the tank bag back on the tank and rode off. I got to Tenterfield before I realised it was gone... Back tracked to the servo, but no joy. I have reported it lost to the Police.

It ONLY had my complete Olympus OMD setup, and my new Gopro 3+ black, etc in it. About $3ks worth by the time I add it all up. Not insured of course.:rolleyes:

A mate has also posted on Facebook, and I'll pay a reward if its returned, but at this stage I think if I get it back its a bonus.

Certainly takes the shine off the holiday.

Don't give up hope,
I dropped a pack off my bike at Gilgandra. Didn't realise till I hit QLD. Called home to beg for cash discovered that the pack had been handed in to police who tracked it from my ID in my wallet.

It was transferred overnight to a QLD pick-up point at no charge; $1k still in the wallet. Never forget it..., although... it was 30 years back. :shrug:

Thanks guys. The feeling is not good at all, but the cameras and gear can all be replaced. There are far worse things that can happen on a long trip this time of year.

Apart from the loss its the frustration of doing such a stupid thing myself that hurts the most I think.:lol:

Fingers crossed for you! I came back to my car the other day in the Traralgon shopping centre car park and found my sunglasses hanging from the driver's door handle, fallen off the back of my head!:lol:
I lost my Nokia N95 from the pocket of my motorcycle jacket somewhere around Leongatha on the freeway, forgot to zip it up tight.:roll eyes:
It was the photo's I had on the phone that I regretted losing the most.
Enjoy the trip anyway, if your on the bike travelling, life could be worse!
Must get out again myself, haven't ridden in a year nearly.

I left my Pentax SLR on a bus once in Liverpool UK,chased the bus by taxi but when the bust stopped the camera was gone never too return.:mad2:

Keep a look out on www.stolencamerafinder.com

If the thief uses the camera and uploads photos on the internet with EXIF data then you might be able to track it down.

Yeah, I carry a pen and notebook in an internal pocket with my details in it and probably some business cards. My led leser torch that I used for work is engraved. I might even have my name inside the HEMA road atlas in the map pocket...

Al and other riders- just a suggestion for the future. It would be very easy to rig up a warning light and/or buzzer if a bag was not attached. Sailing boats use man overboard alarms that activate if a personal unit goes more than a programmed dustance from the base - however a cheap alternative can be a simple continuity plug where the bag has to be unplugged to remove it at which point the alarm light would come on. If you get back on the bike and don't plug in the bag the alarm light woukd be on and. You could rig a relay to operate a loud buzzer if you start the bike without the bag. This wouldn't cost more than $10 to make.

I can sympathise, Al. An idiot close to me forgot to secure his observatory dome one day and lost the lot to a gust of wind. But worse things can indeed happen, very true. Ride safe, brother!:thumbsup:

No sign of anything turning up, so I've just spent the morning ordering replacement gear. I've ordered a OM-D E-M1 12-50 + 17 kit to replace the E-M5. The kit comes with an external flash in it, so I'll hold off on replacing the FL-50 for now to see what its like (I know it won't be as good, but $900 for an FL-50 is a lot of money).
