Hi all,

I've been offered the mono version of the Orion Starshoot G3 with filters from one of my clubs mates, so just seeing if anyone has used it before with a RC 6"? Online tells me it's a good beginner mono ccd, which is a plus because I have zero experience in! The image scale isn't anywhere near as big as my dslr, but since I like galaxies and not that interested in wide field, it isn't that big an issue, right?
Would it be an ok combo, and is there anything else I should be aware of?
Cheers!
Chris

Well if its free and your club mate is happy to give it to you, then i say go for it! I personally would rather a cooled mono ccd than a dslr because a ccd will bring out more detail and is purposely built for astrophotography.

Thanks, Luke.

By "offered" I ment "to buy" :-P Anyhoo I took up his offer and picked it up last night. Got the G3 plus a full set of 1.25" LRGB, Ha12nm, Hb, Ha6nm, O3, S2 filters and a Starlight 7 pos filter wheel :-) I'll use it for a while to get use to mono imagine, or even if it's for me, and if it is, upgrade to a Qhy or Atik in the future.
Cheers
