My wife got a Xmas card from relatives from Canada, surprised to see their astro-themed stamps.
Did Aust ever produce any astro-themed stamps?

Yes we have had space themes over the years. Here is one example I found http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/like/190996279157?hlpht=true&ops=true&viphx=1&lpid=94

I believe the images for that commemorative set were taken by none other than
our own David Malin.

There was also the 23 July 2013 issue of 20th century "Headline News" 60 cent stamps
that included the Apollo 11 moon walk.

That stamp and the others in the same set can be purchased from Australia Post here -

Our own Martin Pugh had one of his images used on a set of Astro Themed stamps put out in 2009, the Year of Astronomy. :)

I remember a set about the colonisation of Mars, but can't remember what year it was. And I believe a satellite or two might have appeared in the further past, too. They do happen, just not every year.

There was a 'LandSat' stamp from memory - but I don't think it was Australian:
