The nice thing about h-alpha is you don't need to worry about the moon or light pollution.
Perhaps I need to give this a snappy title, like "Storm rider" :D... anyway, silly theatre aside....
I think the image does have some drama to it

Negative Ghost Rider, the pattern is full...
Yeah, don't listen to those colour freaks like that Sidonio guy... there's nothing wrong with greyscale for we who must contend with artificial light pollution :)

I got "good-tone" Goose :)
Thanks Greg...Kinda works for me... I'll eventually do colour as well, but I like the light and shade with H-alpha only.

That's very cool. Did you have to manage alnitak in anyway post process or is that the raw luminosity? What was the subs' duration and total integration time?
Peter Ward

Thanks Marc...no special attention paid to Alnitak, all adjustments were global.
I suspect the lack of scattering is due the smoothness of the AP optics. 6x 15 minute subs. Registration and stack with PI. The rest (curves) in PS6.
Ta Laurie
Glad you like it Col

It is quite remarkable not to blow that star on a 15min sub. There is no hint of internal reflections either.

You think so ....... sure, there are reflections, but I suspect they are being controlled by fairly strongly curved optics with excellent RMS smoothness..... I certainly wasn't doing anything fancy.

Oh no, that's what I meant. The optics are flawless. I don't know of any other fast corrected system that would come even close to that result without light bouncing everywhere.

Nice one Peter. I think it looks better in Ha.

Hi Peter -
stop making everyone jealous.
Seriously though - that's an amazing wide field in such a short time.
You've convinced me to use my Ha filter when the Moon is out.
cheers

One of the finest monochrome images I saw. Who needs colour when there is so much going on here :)
Thanks for the view.

Peter, did you use the wrong darks again? I could have sworn I looked at this a few days ago and it had more noise, but today when I took a look it looks better. Its a great image for its integration, I would love one of these scopes.

No...but I did get the time to apply a little Pugh inspired noise-reduction-post-imaging magic.
A pleasure Alex.
Thanks.....hopefully might get some more data soon.
Yep, H-alpha rocks
NB certainly opens up otherwise lost opportunities.
