Nice looking scope. What does "neo achromat" mean?

They're not clouds Flash. It's just the sky gods drooling over your new scope. Looking forward to the first light report.

Because of the design (a four element Petzval arrangement), the field is flatter than a regular doublet lens would be

There are 2 ' elements ' at the front of the tube.....and 2 ' elements ' at the rear of the tube just in front of the focuser.

Hope this helps....

Thanks, Col. I'm familiar with the Petzval design. I have a Tak FSQ-106ED. I was just wondering why the Vixen is not an apochromat. Does it mean they used the extra degree of freedom to correct something else?

Cheers,
Rick.

Laurie.....this is a beautiful Scope.... ' WOW ' is the only word I can describe when you look through one..... had to have another one.....so I bought a brand new one.....

Yes.....colour correction and a ' flatter ' field......

see pic's ....also a 5.5" inch APO would be a heck of a lot more $$$$ than this Achromat Scope.
Primarily...this Scope will be for visual use only....very nice wide field flat views with good colour correction.

Just looked at the OPT price. Looks like they used the extra degree of freedom to reduce cost which is a perfectly good compromise to make. An affordable refractor with that large an aperture is a good deal!

I've had a lot of good Scopes over the years....TeleVue...SharpStars....Wi lliam Optic's....Astro-Tech's...Meade....but there was something that didn't quite satisfy my ' niche ' ....until I bought one of these ...Vixen NA140.

This WILL stay with me ...and be my main viewing instrument....and will possibly be the ' last ' refractor I will buy....I have found my ' perfect ' Scope.

When Col does decide to sell I call dibs, this scope has always appealed to me.

How does that mount handle the load?

Its a beautiful scope Col!

I took some pictures of the moon with my new 140 NA SS and put them on Inages / solar system / waxing crescent. There are comparisons with other scopes i have. I'd be interested in anyone's comments on these

Very well in fact ....Scope only weights 6kg's.....I gave the Scope a reasonable ' bump ' ...settled within a second .....that'll do me until I can sort maybe a pier or ' T-Rex ' combination......not a fan of Equatorial Mounts.

Good for you Col.
They're a hard scope to beat - and to be without eh:)
I take mine out on an EQ3 steel tube with synscan - works just fine for visual.
