Hi folks,

Here's my first crack at NGC 2244 from Suburban Melbourne on a rare clear night with reasonable seeing.

It's such a massive object, I can't fit the whole thing in my camera! (SBIG 8300c) I might need to ask Santa for a focal reducer for Christmas.:)

It's still lowish on the horizon so perhaps worth revisiting later in Feb. Took a while to process and bring out the colours, and the stars still a bit iffy, but it's ok for a first attempt with the OSC.

24 x10 min exposures, IDAS LP filter.

Thanks for looking.

Andy, for a first attempt it is very nice indeed, a little over saturated perhaps, other than that a fine effort.

Nice work mate! Great first crack at it. And, with it being the first go, you can always add more data down the track.

Cheers Cazza, Leon, RickS & IanP,

Leon, here's a slightly desaturated version fyi. :)

I'd like to try this one again with either a shorter FL 'scope or a reducer. in it's entirety it reminds me of the set from that old '60's TV show, the "Time Tunnel" or "The Guardian of Forever" from Star Trek TOS.

Gotta love deep space objects, they really fuel the imagination!
