I have never imaged either of these targets before - which is odd given the time I have been at this game. On reflection a lot of that time has been a game of equipment testing on the same targets seeking a system that best matches my location and interests. I seem to have hit upon a good setup now - perhaps I would like a larger sensor but I am getting results I like (or at least I can see the way to improve) without more changes to kit. So here are my latest efforts - not brilliant but pleasing to me. Both are LRGB with L at 1x1 16 mins and RGB at 2x2 and 8 mins subs, GSO RC10 with AP CD667FR in line and an SBig ST2000 on a G11.

Nice results, John! I don't know NGC 55 well enough to know if it is reversed as well, but the Horsehead is pointing the wrong way.

Oops! Yup they are both flipped - I think this was DSS doing odd things due to the sub series having images from before and after the meridian flip....

Great images & it's easy to flip them back.

Nicely done. NGC55 is a strange looking galaxy. I guess we are looking at it mostly side on.

Great colours in both and you picked up the nebulosity in NGC55 quite well.

I haven't looked at that galaxy with a camera for a while myself.

Top Job.
