I braved the cold and wind in Sydney to get this at around 3:30 this morning.
I can't believe how bright it is, easily visible naked eye even from the Eastern Subs :)

Taken with my 5DmkII + 40mm STM, 113x10sec @ISO3200 & f2.8

P.S. I just got a new lens today (Canon 28mm f1.8) so I'll be getting up at 3 again to get an even wider field shot!

nice shot but i am starting to get confused - two threads are running have the nova in a completely different position? one of those htreads posts a spot similar to yours, the others are not?

Nice one, I hope it clears here soon so I can get a shot of this.

Nice one Hugh, I couldn't believe how bright it was either this morning....

Hmm... I worked out the position from looking at this chart:
http://astrobob.areavoices.com/files/2013/12/Nova-Centauri-1.jpg
From this page:
http://astrobob.areavoices.com/

Plus I looked in Stellarium and there was no bright star where I have marked the Nova.

Of course I'm certainly no expert! So I could be totally wrong! :D

EDIT: Which threads? all the ones I've seen on IIS seem to put it at the same spot...?

Looks correct to me. I haven't seen any threads that have it wrong yet. Plus it's hard to miss considering how bright it is.

Good one Hugh.

That's why I use CdC in preference to Stellarium. Apart from it being much less CPU/graphics intensive (unless you are displaying lots of UCAC4 or NOMAD stars) it is really easy to add objects.
