taken from the iceinspace front page news

Just a quick update, I have added 4 new widefield shots to the widefield images page, taken over the last few months but finally got around to processing them last night. You can mouse-over the image to show the constellation lines and names. If the lines are already there, mouse off the image to see what I mean.

Great stuff Mike.Excellent tool for understanding the sky.Have a lot of problems conveying how the starmaps & charts relate to the real sky to my 8yr old who wants to go out & search & discover on his own.Never thought of a real skyshot with a layover.....Brilliant.

Thanks for the feedback, and your comment was re-iterated by someone else as well.. It's a good learning tool because as you say, sometimes the starcharts are hard to relate to the real sky above you.

There's the beginnings of an idea to photograph the whole sky and overlay some constellation lines in a similar fashion to those widefield shots, for a section on the website about learning the constellations for people new to astronomy..

hmm more work to do :confuse3:

Good stuff Mike,
I think more of that would be good for people like myself who are still trying to work out the sky and charts in mags. I do find the charts in the mags are good but i find them confusing still. Simpler charts for people just starting out, thats what beginers like myself need.
Good job looks great.
