View Full Version here: : Crab Nebula Ha/OIII
Here's a work-in-progress. 2.5 hours of Ha and 2 hours of OIII. 15-minute subs - the stars are getting a bit eggy. I've used Ha as the red channel and OIII as the blue, with a synthesized green channel.
I'll try to get some SII, if there is any in this nebula? Also maybe a straight luminosity channel. The detail in this nebula is just fantastic.
This is really my first attempt at narrowband (apart from the de rigour quick try at M42). So any advice much appreciated.
Cheers

That's pretty good Jon, was that with the 10" SCT?
I was only thinking about the Crab, night before last, while finishing off my latest galaxy image in Eridanus, thinking wonder how that would look through my system ...we don't image it often from down under, so well done!

Hi Jonathan,
crikey, M1 must be skimming the trees from down your way. So guiding would be badly affected by all sorts of factors. Well done. I'm having a play with it myself and have done an hour of Ha, SII and OIII so far and hoping to get about 3 hours per channel over the next couple of nights. There is quite a lot of SII in there that you might like to try in lieu of a synthesized green channel - and also experiment with a remix as SHO instead.

Hi Jonathon,
Really do like what's coming through in nebula with narrowband.
A remarkable DSO.
Cheers,
Justin.
Cheers all. Yes, I've just recently moved to North Canberra with a pretty clear view of the Northern horizon which is the least LP-affected part of the sky. Finally able to get a glimpse at some of those famous Northern objects - I've imaged the Crab, M13. I've also been doing a fair bit of photometry on Nova Del which is really testing out my capabilities in transforming for airmass!
Mike, yes it's the 10" SCT with f/6.3 reducer/flattener.
