Guys, reality check...
From the wreckage it's pretty obvious someone was "pedal to the metal"... Fast and furious, indeed.
Sorry but my sympathy is limited in such circumstances.

Lived fast ,died furious.
reminds me of the James Dean car crash death in a Porsche.
On September 30, 1955, actor James Dean was driving his new Porsche 550 Spyder to an auto rally in Salinas, California when he was involved in a head-on collision with a 1950 Ford Tutor. James Dean, only 24 years old, died in the crash.

An update:
Car malfunction possible cause of Paul Walker crash (http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/lifestyle/celebrity/car-malfunction-possible-cause-of-paul-walker-crash-20131203-2yoh1.html)
Also, there will be a charity drive on 15 December in the greater Brisbane/Gold Coast area organised by Downshift Australia in honour of Paul Walker and his charity, Reach Out World Wide:
Car enthusiasts to remember Paul Walker with charity drive (http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/queensland/car-enthusiasts-to-remember-paul-walker-with-charity-drive-20131203-2yooc.html)
Mechanical failure or not, that car was obviously travelling at a dangerous speed at the time of the accident.

Of course, you're entitled to your opinion, but I suggest you man up and write directly to the deceased's family to express your views rather than pontificate from a safe distance in an obscure forum.
Don't want to do that? Then how about showing some respect for the dead.
Settle... No disrespect to the dead intended, I was making an objective statement as to the likely speed of a vehicle to end up in that state.
Hopefully such a well publicized crash might encourage a few other drivers to slow down.

A few years ago I had the distinct pleasure of seeing a high speed crash in front of my home. The resulting mess resembled the crash in this thread. The result was four dead - the driver trapped at the wheel under a 5 tonne pole the car was wrapped around, three others flung out like rag dolls to their deaths. The ferocity of the fling saw laced up shoes be flung off feet. The driver lost control 100m from the final crash site, taking out a little Honda Civic going in the other direction before collecting the pole. The driver of the Honda I never found out how they ended up.
Do I have sympathy for the dead actor - not a chance. He had the choice to tell the driver to stop in a PUBLIC road. This was not a race track or a controlled stunt scene, where the actor wouldn't have been in the car. To look for an excuse in mechanical failure in the car is a cop out. A car doesn't disintergrate like this one did if the speed limit is being followed.
The family? Cheap shot that one. They alone need to bare the tragedy of a poor decision by a loved one. I do feel for them though. They lost a loved one.
Every single night I hear the roar of racing engines. My greatest fear is that a loved one of mine or me are collected by one of those idiots who want to emulate a movie on an open public road. I've seen enough broken bodies, thank you very much.
If you feel so sorry, you haven't had to deal with the result of these disasters.

The Porsche Carrera GT, has the fuel tank in the front of the car. It proved to be of a death trap even in "low" speed collisions. They often ended up with burning and exploding fuel tanks from frontal collisions. Hence the footage of the fire and the popping sounds of the tank explosions you can hear in the video footage and why the car looked totally wrecked. They didn't make too many of them. Only about 1200 I read. They all had the reputation of wild handling.
It sucks he was a passenger and had no "direct" control in the situation. A fantastic supporter of charity events and was raising money for people who suffer in natural disasters, like the recent typhoon in the Philippines.
He was one of my favorite actors. I will sorely miss him.

It is not, nor was, my intention to create a debate on road safety, but certain responses in what is an obituary thread seem so inappropriate to me that I feel compelled to say something. I think the yardstick is pretty simple: if you wouldn't say it to the family, don't say it here.
And did you tell the families, friends and co-workers of the car crash victims you've seen that you had no sympathy for them? No? Then why post that here? It can be read by anyone.
On the contrary, it's a cheap shot to talk down someone who is no longer able to speak up for themselves, especially when you don't know the facts, as none of us do.
You know neither me nor that, and you're wrong.
There's a well known saying that I'm sure you'll recognise when you see it, and to me, it speaks volumes about the degree of civility in our society:
Never speak ill of the dead.

I don't like how some of the discussion in here has gotten out of hand. Also I don't like some of the terrible comments that were said. At least some people in here have respect and I tip my hat to them.
RIP Paul.

Is there any evidence at all that he was racing? I'm sure I read in the paper that it wasn't a result of speed.
Please remain respectful regardless of your personal opinions on the topic.

Perhaps the thread title should read: " Fast & Furious Star and friend die in car crash "
May they rest in Peace !

I saw a bit of video footage shot from a surv camera. It is on utube. They hit hard and very fast.
It is sad but get over it.
The public roads are no place to test out very fast cars. Do it on a race track.
Judging by the shock wave they were doing at least 180k if not more.

The final state of the wreckage isn't a true indication of the accident itself since the fire department will have had to cut it open to get the bodies out, plus the explosion after impact will have caused additional damage.
I found the Fast & Furious series watchable, and Paul Walker's acting ability rather limited. However, I didn't know about his charity work until a few days ago, so regardless of how he died, it sounds like he gave more to the world than he took from it, and therefore his death is a real loss to many people, not least of whom is his 15-year-old daughter.

Two Semi Drivers where killed today and one seriously injured in a vicious pile up in Victoria, they were going about their working business, I don't see anyone here mourning their passing.:(
Sorry but it looks like they were living out the movie, and they paid for it big time.
Cheers:thumbsup:
