Hi All
Im new here but have been given an old classic Celestron 8 with the synchronous drive motors in the base. Nothing else. I would like to bring it back to life...

Its like:

Its Aussie and so says it can deal with our voltages.
However I have no power cord or any drive corrector or controller for the focusing.

Does anyone have any idea where I can get my hands on a power cord and the associated drive correctors/focusing controller?

Best Regards

From memory some old tape decks had the same power cord, can you post a picture of the connector?

You're looking for an ol' frequency controller....if pain persists I have some wiring diagrams for DIY.
I think JMI still sell the Dec drive motors and the focus motors.

I've got a cord. Where abouts in Sydney are you? I'm in Maroubra if you'd like to bring it over& we can have a look at it. I too have an Orange C8 - love it to bits.

I'll PM you once I've done this post.

I recently sold my orange tube C-8[ I miss it]. The R.A. drive is very
good, having such a large gear. I found getting sick of manually
guiding in Dec. limited my exposure lengths, rather than the R.A.
accuracy. I would double check that it has in fact got 220v motors.
I can't remember whether you can see the label without removing
a motor or not. It's only two screws; in any case it is a good idea to
adjust the gear backlash. In case you don't have the manual for it, you
just loosen both screws and ease the motor in towards the R.A. gear until the motor's small spur gear is lightly contacting it, and nip up the screws. Ditto for the other motor. I tried everywhere I could think of,
including some U.S. used parts dealers, but had no luck finding an
example of either the single or dual axis drive corrector. Mine was 1981
vintage and the optics were still great. Happy imaging.

Now I'm north of the Equator, I need to reverse the direction of rotation in my C8. Since that is not possible with the existing motors, I need some replacement motors. Looks like there might be new ones from China that might work if I can find the right size and change over the cog
