The IC434 Ha regions

It's been a while since I posted anything so I grabbed a smallish window last night when it wasn't blowing a gale up here and did some plain Ha on the horsehead to try out a different camera/filter setup.

This is 2 hours of 10 minute subs in 8.5nm Ha (Baader filter) on an ATIK LE4000 through a Tak BabyQ at f5.3. I know there's a bit of elongation in there - some droop in the focuser I think at this stage but these days, I'm grateful for any images I can record in this weather.

Wow, that's really good. Lovely and bright and tons of detail. I did not even notice about the stars. The elongation is very minor indeed. I think we all obssess about small things in many of our images to our detriment of the overall impact of the images we produce.

In the digital camera world that has a name - pixel peeping!

Looks great despite minor droop, Peter! Detail is very impressive. Time for some RGB and a HaRGB blend?

Hi Cathy. Yes, it was. I half expected the mount to be playing up a bit - this was the first time I've fired it up since we had serious electrical storms a week or so back and I hadn't been able to unplug the observatory before it hit. And we had some lightning strikes that seemed to come down the chimney. So it was a relief to find that it had all survived.

Well I have not seen many pictures that have been taken on the EQ8
You have done such a good job considering you have not done much with the new EQ8 Mount since you got it.
Yes I don't like the storms either so if a storm blew over quickly in the night and blew the scope over here or away at least I know that the insurance would replace it all ( Portable Insurance ) in place or drop a camera.

Top shot Peter. Really draws you in. Great detail and contrast to my eye. You'd have to be pleased with that one.
