Coma Carina

Hi all first time post long time lurker.

I have just brought an Orion Autoguider Package and have attached it to my NEQ6. Seems to be tracking fine did a couple of 4-5 minute exposures through my 10" Sky Watcher Black Diamond. Now that I am happy with the tracking I was wandering if anyone could recommend what else I need by looking at my pic of Eta Carina in terms of vingerring, coma correction and flattening. Ive been at this for roughly six months now when time allows and my 3rd astrophotography attempt. The neb was done quickly at the moment and not processed well, just wanting to get nice pin point stars. Camera I'm running is 5d Mark III unmodified but also have a GSTAR EX2 mono with filters I will use now tracking is sorted and time allows.

Exposures varied from 5 to 1 min over 16 pics ranging in ISO like I said at the moment want to sort out stars.

G'day Scott,

nice work on getting the rigg up and running. i'm guessing by the coma the 10" is at f4? Firstly I would consider getting a baader MPCC (mutli purpose coma corrector). to help reduce the coma effect. has the picture been cropped at all?

Hopefully the badder works for you full frame sensors will really make it harder, a cropped would make life much more simple. Hopefully the guys here can help you out, i'am sure some have mastered full frame and newt combos.

Yeah eventually id like to go to high end ccd but for now try to get the best with what I have. There are some great photos from members on this site

Will I still need a field flatenner on top of coma correction?

I'd try the baader MPCC, revisit collimation and perhaps for using a full frame camera you may need to ensure you have a wider M48 t ring such as http://www.bintel.com.au/Astrophotography/Camera-Adapters---T-Rings/T-Ring-Wide-Canon-48mm/1188/productview.aspx i think the MPCC will screw directly into it and by removing the 1.25" eyepiece holder on the telescope the adaption should couple with the scope.

Hey Scott, maybe don't have to wait for too long to go with a high end CCD. Read the reveiw on the ZWO ASI120 series of cameras on here. I and a few others have started with htis little beast and for it's price it is proving to be quite a capable piece of gear.
Worth checking out anyway.
