Hi,

Thunderstorms cleared this afternoon and after doing the lawns I thought I would have a quick look at the Sun with my PST. On the limb I saw a small prominence which began to glow white and become "incandescent". Over a period of about 15 minutes this magnificent prominence erupted, forked and looped back onto the Sun. It happened so quickly I only has time to race in and get my DSLR for some poor quick snaps. Did anyone else see this event and for those who know is my interpretation of the event correct?

The event was captured on the GONG network. Go to http://halpha.nso.edu/ and look at Learmonth and run the movie slowly.

:) Yes Richard J. they can erupt as quick as that! Lucky you to be looking at just the right time:)
I must have just missed it. I looked at 2.15 WST and saw a defuse looped prominence, which I now know to be the remains of your eruption. Drats!

Hi Richard, Great capture - you've got to be quick for these. I missed it due to cloud coverage. Well done, it looks a beauty. Cheers.
