Imaging Source DMK 51 (Mono)

Hi everyone,
The reason behind this question is that I have a Solar Max II 60mm Double Stack scope and my next step is to use a quality imager with it.
Would the DMK 51AU02.AS (mono) be the camera to buy? I am also wondering if the DMK 41 and 51 units will give a full field of view of the Sun with the above telescope? I am assuming that given identical observing conditions the DMK 51 would give superior resolution over the DMK 41.
Any constructive ideas and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I think the DMK41 is a good match for this scope. Here is the FOV for a DMK41 (left) and DMK51 (right) on the SolarMax II 60mm scope:

If you can do USB3 have good seeing and you can afford it, this is better (higher resolution):

Then there is the Celestron Skyris 274 USB3 version of the ICX274AL (same chip as Imaging Source DMK51):

Or less expensive, the Imaging Source USB3 version of the ICX274AL (same chip as Imaging Source DMK51), called the DMK31 23U274:

Thanks for this information. The website that you have sent is excellent. I am hearing The Imaging Source sold off their Astronomy side of things to Celestron about two months ago.

I have a firewire DMK41 in the for sale section....
Where did you hear about Celestron/ Imaging Source????

I got an email from a guy by the name of Stephan Ramsden www.solarastronomy.org (http://www.solarastronomy.org/) who runs an excellent Solar Website in the US.
I am told that Celestron is now selling under the name Skyris with different model numbers.

I know Stephen very well....
I don't think there is any question of Imaging Source getting out of astronomical cameras - they have structured a deal with Celestron for a specific model - not all the DMK range.

Thanks for that. As I understood it The Imaging Source turned over all their astronomy camera sales to Celestron a few months back but some dealers still have these cameras in stock with their old DMK numbers.
I'll probably will go with the DMK 51 though

The gamma has been disabled in the 51 equivalent Skyris, making it not much chop for solar imaging. Your best bet is still the DMK51.

is that software disabled or hardware? I was looking at getting one of the Skyris equavalents i nthe DMK - its just they dont come with the astro bibs and bobs

I'm assuming hardware but I'm not 100% certain Dave If you get in touch with Jim Lafferty either on Facebook or Solarchat he will soon tell you. He has one & we were discussing it a few weeks ago.

According to the web ads it definately comes with a 1.25" nosepiece...don't know about a UV-IR filter....

On the (us) Imaging source website the usual collection of DMK etc are still available....
The "specials" attracted this blog reply.....

the DFK 23G618 is not an astronomy cameras but an industrial camera and is not available for end-users.
That's why you can't buy it whether by dealers nor online.
