triffid nebula last night

Took this pic at prime focus (f10) ,unguided, using canon350d at iso 1600 using lx90. 3pics @120sec stacked in registax , enhanced in photoshop5. noise reduced using neat image. Moon high in sky.

Nice unguided image Philip.

Just next time center the target....it's a bit of a pet hate for me so dont take it seriously...I would just take the time to make sure the target is centered before I start imaging.

Good star images too, and if you had centred the Trifid you would not have got the nebula at the bottom right corner.;)

Following on from tonys comment composition wise centring the subject is not always very pleasing . I believe its called the rule of thirds in painting and photography. Note the astophotography article in last months issue of Australian sky and telescope it covers the rule of thirds extensively

This appears to be a very good image IMO. As usual with these low res small size postings it is hard to inspect but never the less it looks good to me!

I have to agree about the framing though. While seamingly a pedantic comment the composition of an image contributes greately to the asthetics of an image. The middle ground is, too, well? put the object in the middle :P

However an off centre placement of an object can work very well if there is something else in the image to balance it. The rule of thirds is a bit over the top IMO

Here is my image of M20 and I think the balance worked well. I was trying to depict the Trifid as being on the end of a star trail from M21 ala Tinker Bell and fairy dust...? :screwy: :shrug:

I would have to agree with Tony.
In my opinion the triffid is your only subject and although the article does talk about the rule or thirds, I can't see how you have applied that rule to your frame.
I just cant see how it balances out the rule.

The image itself is terrific and the histogram is perfect.
