Live coverage of the Qualifying session for this weekend's U.S. Grand Prix begins at
04:30 AEDT on Sunday morning on ONE.
It is replayed again on TEN on Sunday night at 23:55.
Coverage of the race itself begins on ONE on Monday morning at 05:30 AEDT.
Conditions are expected to be warm with occasional cloud over the weekend.
Alonso has been resting as much as practical and has been deemed fit to race
by FIA doctors at the Austin circuit. He will be trying hard to secure second position
in the driver's and constructors' championships.
Heikki Kovalainen will take the Iceman's Lotus seat in Austin and Brazil. However,
he says he will return to drive for Carterham in 2014.
Michael Schumacher turned down an offer to take the Lotus seat in 2014.
In other news for 2014, Perez will be leaving McLaren and will be replaced by
Kevin Magnussen to join with Button. Fresh from winning this year's Formula
Renault 3.5 feeder series, McLaren claim the Danish Magnussen is already faster
than Perez in the simulator. Given McLaren's poor performance this year,
obviously they are going to need all the talent they can muster.
Pastor Maldonado well leave Williams now the team has signed Massa.
Australian students win F1 in Schools World Championship
For the second year in a row, an Australian team have won the "F1 in
Schools" world championship. The team, which called itself A1 Racing,
consisted of six teenage students from two Australian schools 3000km apart.
They were from Pine Rivers State High School in Queensland and
Phoenix P-12 Community College in Ballarat, Victoria.
They were up against 37 other student teams from around the world.
The finals were held in Austin, Texas.
The teams have to design, manufacture and race the fastest F1 Car of the Future,
a 21cm long scale model designed using 3D CAD software and machined from
a block of balsa. 3D printing technology is employed for the front and rear wings.
The aerodynamic cars were raced on a 20m track, which they take just over one
second to run.
A1 racing won not only the Ecclestone World Champion's trophy but also received
Motorsport and Automotive Engineering Scholarships for City University, London.
Well done guys!
