Hi all,
It was an interesting night last night. There were quite a few clouds about but I decided to try my luck and do some alignment stars and pec recording on the mount in the observatory. Anyway while out there everyone else in the house went to sleep and locked me out. I wasn't sure how long for but didn't want to wake anyone so I made a night of it, chasing sucker holes and having a look around. Good thing came out of it, got my first view of Comet ISON. Finally got let back in at 5am after noticing my wife walking around inside, scared the day lights out of her hehe...
Has anyone else been locked out?

Yup, once. Had to jump the fence (when I used to set up in the driveway). I now set up in the courtyard, where I make SURE one side entrance is annotated with a sign "I am outside looking up". SWMBO usually stays up till 3am anyway, so not much problem.

Yes, once SWMBO fortunately left a sliding door unlocked by accident so I was able to get in. I always have a key with me now just in case.:P
I've never had problems with the family locking me out - they're all upstairs snoozing while I'm misbehaving. However one night years ago around 2am I decided to duck back unside for something or other and SLAMMED into the screen door in the dark (forgetting I'd closed it earlier )
The next day a few people at work were puzzled about the criss-cross welt all across my forehead though - almost drew blood
The crimsafe bounced me off like a trampoline and every dog in the neighbourhood went nuts for a few minutes :tasdevil::rundog:
Should probably count my lucky stars didn't break my nose.

I always have a key in my pocket and one secreted in the yard (no not under the mat or on top of the frame but I am not saying)
However in 1972 I was in Vic. HMAS Cerberus for the mid winter ball. We got kicked out of the Wardroom for the weekend and had to stay at the Hastings Hotel. After the Ball we did not get back to the hotel until about 1:30AM (Mid June freezing weather). We were locked out. Could not raise anyone. Tried the local cops. no luck
I ended up going around the back and picked the lock on the fire door. Managed to get in and into bed by 2:00AM. Had words with the hotel the next day as to why I was not given a key to get back in if they were closed. They knew where I was going and why I was staying at the hotel.

I always put the key to the French Doors to the deck in my pocket when I'm outside late. It's the only key so no one can lock me out ..
The Ob is only about 15 meters from the deck.
