Our VW Passat hit over 300,000 KM the other day, still purring like a kitten, but...
In the front end, a "squigy" creaking noise has started. Usually only sounds when the parts are either dead cold, or warmed up. Now, that makes me think contact parts (ball joint, tie rod ends).
Driving it is not noticeable apart from the sound - no difference whatsoever in handling and ride. Doesn't under or over steer, no bearing chatter, even doing fast snaking to stress it. Jut this odd rubbing squishy creaking noise. The noise seems to be more noticeable during braking and accelerating after braking. Oddly, the noise is ONLY perceptible with the windows UP.
Ideas, oh car gurus?
Like I said, I am thinking ball joints or tie rod ends, neither of which is terribly expensive in this car (thankfully). The shockies are getting a bit old, so probably replace them too. Booked in for Friday diagnostic.
