Hi,

These images are from Saturday morning.

Comet Lovejoy is sporting a tail, it measures about 25 arc minutes in this image, but I'm sure there is more. Guide 8 has it mag 9.9 but I'd say 8.5.
Still a remarkable resemblance to Comet Lemmon.

Comet Ison was for more challenging from this far south. I had to wait till it cleared the hill and it was imaged in morning twighlight.
It's tail measure about 30 arc minutes. Guide has it at mag 7.8.

Equipment used.
8” F/4 astrograph , baader type coma corrector,. HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider.
Camera.
Unmodded Cannon 1100D.

Cheers,

Justin..

Nice pics Justin, Lovejoy's been much nicer to image than Ison - the 30 minute window before sunrise dont help ! :P

Hi Justin,

Great images, but I'm wondering about the colour of R1. I imaged it too, Saturday morning, and for me the coma came out more blue or blue-green.
I'll try to post in in a new thread.

Thanks Kevin!

Yep, pleasantly surprised.:)

Thanks Laurie!

Always more interesting with a tail.

Thanks!

Yes not the best for us southerners.

Thanks Bob!

Thanks jjj !

Thanks Stephan!

More green than blue is normal for unmodded dslr images.

Cheers,

Justin.
