Hi all,
One of my favorite locations to shoot is this lone tree in a field not too far from my house. Or I should say, it was this lone tree. I went there last night to photograph Venus and the Milky Way together, only to discover that the tree had sadly succumbed to the ravages of time and is no longer standing.
So I thought I would honor its memory by releasing one last shot from the spectacular lightning display I managed to capture there in January.

Well done for standing in an open field during a lightening storm Greg. Not me
Our Village mourned the loss of a much loved dead tree this year too. Funny how these ghosts captivate us...

One of the most dramatic lightning shots I've seen.
So, do you reckon the tree succumbed to lightning??

Thank you so much everyone :D
Sanity eventually prevailed a few minutes after this shot when the bolts got even closer and were striking all around me. That's when I had one of those "What the ........ are you doing Greg???" thoughts and bolted for the car
It's possible I guess but not on this day. I had been back a couple of times in between this shot and when I discovered it's demise on Wednesday and it was still fine on those occasions. We had a really wet winter down here and coupled with many years of decay and rot, my guess is that during one of the early spring wind gales it was simply blown over. You can see even in this image taken over ten months ago it had a bit of a lean on it.
Or the farmer got sick of driving around it whilst cropping.............

Amazing image as usual Greg. Love it. Sad to hear the tree is no longer, at least it won't be forgotten thanks to your images.
