Sun spot... with SPC880 ?! (updated with ASI120MC)

Yes, my first try with our star. And perhaps the last !

It's very hard to work with a 305 mm. My heart cries with pain, because of solar heat pump on the equipment ! :sadeyes:

I know that they aren't impressive, despite of the camera used. But to focus the Sun and to fight against the heat on the telescope and camera was a hard task.

The camera didn't catch any proeminence. I tried. With camera adjustment. But ... none. :(

I didn't want to use ASI camera and Canon because it was a try and test.

But they are reazonable ! No filters... No Barlow ... I accept them ! :D

Say what! I assume you used a Solar Filter such as Thousand Oaks or Baader astro solar film; otherwise you would have melted the camera?:question::)

Evident , Sir Watson ! I used solar filter Baader and made reduction of overture. Or, if you prefer, I did adaptation to a solar telescope. ;)

What I didn't was thermic isolation to the OTA and camera. :sadeyes:

My reference to filters is to the H alpha, Etalon or similar. Proeminences are better captured with them, right ?

Thanks – I figured you did use a solar filter otherwise the camera would be molten plastic.;)

I haven’t used any narrow band filters on the Sun but yes, they are required to show prominences.

I can sympathise with the gruelling conditions; the heat, discomfort, focusing difficulty in bright conditions, etc.:thumbsup:

I tried to do with ASI120MC and I am working on them. The first is ready. And I used a barlow GSO 2 inch ED, on 1.5x mode.

The espherical distortion of this barlow kill the surface details. But, despite it, the spot seems to be well.

I use a large umbrella to shelter the telescope, camera and myself from the heat of the Sun.
