Re-processed Milky Way

Hi all, i have been practising my image processing with P/S cs2 and other noise removal software.

I have re-touched these images of the Milky Way from the great ocean road last week.

I am very happy with a couple of these pics, as they were all taken from the tripod.

Any comments or critique welcome.

These astro 5D's are nothing short of revolutionary and will change the face of amateur astrophotography forever - thanks Trevor you have once again proved that money does indeed buy happiness :) especially when it comes to astrophotography!
between you and bert, i think you guys will sell a lot of astro 5D's :) I know coz i'm sold :-))) one day :-)

Thanks for the comments, yes it's an awsome thing to get this amount of detail from a 20 odd second exposure that's for sure.

It was a dark site though, and it helps a lot in getting the detail without the skyglow.

I would really like to lower the iso to 200-400 and go a lot longer with the exposures, but i am still deciding on the mount i am going to get, i am leaning toward full time widefield imaging with a Kenko Skymemo or an equivelant eq mount????

Dont know much about the little portable mounts Trevor, but I am very interested to see your results with longer guided widefield exposures from a dark sky site, at a lower iso and stacked with your setup. scary! :eyepop:

From a tripod fantastic.
I dont know the mount you ask about but i have found for wide field they are very forgiving. I have got to 45 minutes with a EQ5 if that helps

Thanks again, Kearn, i can sort of imagine the detail the canon will capture with longer exposures, i do hope to bring it on very soon, stay tuned.

Thanks Alex, i am nearly sold on the eq5 dual axis drive combo, it's pretty cheap as well, I have seen your longer exposures and they are awsome to say the least, i think the fact that you don't have to be that precise with polar alignment really appeals to me as i didn't have that much luck tracking with my eq6 on deep space stuff.

mmm I didnt say you could throw polar alignment out the window twas more as to the periodic error I was referring:) . but with that camera you probably wont have to worry about that either;) .. good luck

:)Yes i understood that Alex, i was refering to the amount widefield imaging is forgiving regarding polar alignment.

I have an efs10-22mm lens for my 350 that gives me a fair exposure time without trailing, the widest ef lens i have for the 5d is 28-105mm, which gives me exposures around the 20-30 second mark before trailing ruins the image.

I am hoping to get a decent polar alignment with the eq5 and see how far i can push the exposures, even doing a drift alignment to get it as close as can be.

I am sure looking forward to getting this setup out into the dark gathering photons.

I dont know if I have said it around here before but this works for me.
To polar align I take a time exposure thru the guide scope of the day (can be the 70, 80 or either of the 150 ar or sn ) with the motors off and the scope pointing to the pole (home poss), check the image and move the mount to try and centre the circle of stars recorded in in the shot.. often I cant do better when I check it against drift (it takes a couple of shots but only while the coffee is brewing)
