Sky Watcher introduced this telescope first as a Quintuplet, a triplet with built-in 2 element field flattener. Now Sky Watcher's web page displays the Esprit 100ED at a reduced price as an apochromatic Triplet. I have seen the 100ED Esprit Quintuplet still listed on dealer websites as "Special Order Only". Has anyone field-tested either version? I can't substantiate this, but rumour was the few Quintuplets that shipped out, displayed collimation problems, so it was withdrawn and was to be replaced by the triplet version? I have contacted Sky Watcher about the 100ED Esprit and they are mum on the subject, likewise with Sky Watcher retailers.

I can't comment on these particular refractors but based upon my own experiences in the past with the QC and general quality standards of SW ewquiment I find this circumstance unsurprising.

There were QC problems with them.
I'm not sure if the 100ED will come back but i know the 120 and 150 were re-released as triplets with seperate flatteners now.
They were pretty expensive to begin with, which is why i stood clear. The new prices arn't too great either.
I'll try and find the cloudynights links - but you should be able to find them with a google.
