NGC 1760-1763-1769-1773 aka The Gorgon

I recently captured a deep NGC 1763 in bicolour Ha/OIII (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=112591), and was impressed by Justin Tilbrook's unmodded DSLR effort (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=112922) showing the wider field... so like the Old El Paso girl (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqgSO8_cRio), I thought "why don't we have both?"

Here's a quick combine of our two versions (with Justin's permission). Hope you like it!


Justin's image: 3.5 hours with an 8” F/4 astrograph , baader type coma corrector,. HEQ Pro 5 mount, orion mini guider, Canon unmodded 1100D.

My image: 16 hours Ha with an 8" f/8 GSO RC, SX AO-LF + Lodestar, EQ6, SBIG STF-8300M, Astrodon 3 nm Ha.

That's worked so well it's got me wondering what other collaborative images could be achieved like this.

Great effort guys. Very striking - looks like a multi-eyed monster looking out or something? (what have I been drinking? :lol:)

Great going Dave and Justin. The image sure 'fed my fiesta' with its improved colour balance. The OIII regions have come up well, but most striking is the return of the star colours. The Ha looked a notch over cooked for my liking in the original perhaps extracting too much information or trying to display too much as once. This rendition has brought back the finer knots of nebulosity with its mild contrast. Well done. More collaborative efforts to come no doubt, at least I hope so judging by the quality of this image.

Thanks Jase & Mike! As soon as I saw Justin's image, I thought "what a great composition!" with the glob, bright yellow star, and other clusters. It's certainly worth a re-visit over the summer if the weather behaves :)
