Hi guys
I was just curious, once comet ison has come past around the sun (provided it does survive), will it be visible from Perth?
Cheers
Oliver :)

I believe we'll only be able to see it in Australia before it passes around the Sun. So that means up until mid-late November.
You can load it into Stellarium if you want to visualise where and when it will be within sight from your location (Stellarium won't tell you how bright it will be though).

Oliver, assuming it survives, and that the current orbital elements stay accurate, it should be visible from Perth beginning Jan 31 until late April, by which time it will be pretty dim. At no time will it be more than about 15 degrees above the horizon.

Cheers for that guys!
So where do you reckon would be the best place on earth to view this comet? Lets say money isnt an issue here :)

Right after perihelion, the best viewing spot will be 2 or 3 degrees north of the arctic circle. A few days later anywhere in mid northern hemisphere will do. Assuming it survives of course ;)

Best place... maybe from an aircraft at 40,000 feet. At ground level we're looking through haze to see it since it's always hugging the horizon.
