Another image from last weekend.

I took some nice Ha for this but when processing it I find the LMC often gets overwhelmed by the Ha component easily in processing. It destroys the delicates blues in the neb areas in the LRGB image.

So I left the Ha out. As a result the image seems to sparkle more which is what I wanted to show - the spray of bright millions of stars and the subtle colours of the neb areas.

TEC110 fluorite, PMX mount, SBIG STi guider, Vixen VMC 95 guide scope.

Yes I agree with your observations about Ha Greg. That's a classic LMC.

Cheers

Impressive image Greg. Love the subtle traces of dust. Wise choice in dropping the Ha. I did the same when I produced a four panel mosaic with the FSQ/U16M combo a few years ago. I had also acquired OIII and dropped that as well. You've got a top shelf image there with a tight composition. More room for the main target would be nice, but its not going to happen unless you go the mosaic path. More please.

Yes - it's a great pic - a mosaic to include more would be icing on the cake.

Yeah, I was going to ask the same question: can we have the whole thing?

Thanks very much for that.

Thanks Mike. I was happy with this one. I have often imaged the LMC and have never been quite happy with the results.

Thanks Rick. I've done several LMC's over the years and usually the Ha takes over and makes it all too red and dominant.

Thanks Larry.

Thanks Steve. The subtle blues are the first thing to disappear when adding the Ha. At least the way I add Ha anyway.

Yes a mosaic could be fun. Although that image now would require 8 more to expand it fully. Ideally it would only need 4 with 1/4 at a time rather than the central panel like that. Perhaps I can add one on either side or one above and below. Or start again.

I might do one. Its a classic Southern target.

Yes it may be a good project.

Thanks Marc. I am happy with how it turned out.

That's great Greg!

Some of the best detail I've seen in the LMC.
Your giving me idea's, really need a modded camera though.

Cheers,

Justin.

That's stunning, a really great LMC image you've got there Greg! I like the image scale and the immense amount of stars. Great work :)

Yes APOs are a beautiful piece of gear.

Thanks very much for that. Some objects are very well suited to a widefield refractor.
