Hi All:hi:

I was wondering if anyone has ever piggybacked a 6" (Celestron) SCT on top of a 10" LX200GPS. Is it possible or is the 6" too bulky. The 6" is not heavier than a 100mm ED or a 102mm achromatic, which I'm using at the moment.

I'm very much interested in the group opinion/experience.

I did this on an LX50, it actually worked fine for visual, but not much chop for anything other than planetary as far as photography went.

John - the C6 is only 3.5kg bare and most of the weight is toward the rear so as long as you can balance it, shouldn't be a problem.

The question is....why would you? With careful selection of eyepieces, the FOV of the 10" can almost match that of the C6 due to the narrow (27mm) baffle tube on the C6. You can get a bit of a wider view with a reducer, but it will eventually vignette (just how much is a subject of much debate!)

Thanks for your input. The idea is to use the 6" for video astronomy mostly. I've got a Meade 6.3 reducer and a .5 which came with the video camera. They both work fine with the scope. My question was only related to the LX200 capacity to support the OTA. I use the 10" only for visual and, at the moment, the 102 mm achromatic refractor for some basic astrophotography.
