No more separate "WANTED" classified section?

Hi all,

I've been on the look out for a few items recently. I've had my ads up in the WANTED section, and every now and then bumping them along.

But I find it annoying that not only is there very little traffic going through this section, but it's even more so when the very thing you are after gets listed in the other For Sale sections & I miss out, AGAIN.

Not just me, but this happens regularly to others.

Why I can see the reason for having a separate WANTED section, I think it's more a source of frustration than fulfilment. Recently, these led to a flurry of nasty comments when an item that was being sought was posted for sale, even though an ad asking for this very item was on the top of the WANTED section! & the person asking for the piece missed out.

It came to pass that the person who posted the For Sale ad also NEVER goes through the Wanted section.

If not totally removing the Wanted section, how about allowing wanted ads to be posted in the other sections?

I've mentioned this to the mods, and now I'm asking everyone else on their thoughts.

Alright by me if things go that way.....eg: you want a particular eyepiece...then put a ' wanted ..such and such an eyepiece ' in the Eyepiece classifieds......same if you want a Telescope...but under Telescope Classifieds......and so on.

Not a bad idea actually......keeps everything under it's ' own ' identity.

If it stays the way it is....I'm still happy......

I'm happy with things as they are. The first thing I do on other sites, e.g. Astromart, is filter out the "Wanted" ads.

Why should a seller check the wanted ads? Maybe they want to open up the item to all potential buyers. Either way, it's up to them. For a buyer, it's really not hard to check sale ads even if they've posted a wanted ad. In fact, I think it's rather lazy not to.

I would have thought the reason for the wanted section is to facilitate things. The way you describe it serves my argument that it is redundant, & that the wanted ads should be at least allowed to be placed in their relevant classification.

The amount of traffic going through the wanted section is tiny. Everyone goes through the For Sale items whether they are selling or not. Having a wanted ad would allow those browsing the classifieds to more readily can across an ad that may trigger a thought that 'yeah, I've got one of those I'm no longer using', & the request is more readily fulfilled.

To allow wanted ads to be placed in their relevant categories would also turn around ads much more quickly. A specific Wanted section should remain, I think, as some items can be tricky to categorise.
