WTB: 2" 15mm-26mm eyepieces for DOB

Hi all - wish to purchase one or two 2" eyepieces for my DOB.

Presently have a 32mm 2" eyepiece with a 55-60degree FOV. I like it, and am not really enjoying going back to the 1.5" 15mm etc.

Anyway was looking to see if anyone has any 2" eyepieces for sale. Prefer lower magnification but with a modest FOV.

Oh nothing really - more personal choice. Like the larger viewing area offered by a 2"

in the same way that i am going all 1.25... there is consistancy to think about too. my 30mm SV doesnt get used at all cause i cant be bothered stuffing around with adapters. if all my EPs were the same size there'd be no problem :)

I guess by this you mean larger FOV (so that the window on space you are looking through appears larger) or larger eye lens perhaps?


I guess you meant the opposite of what you wrote here, i.e., generous rather than "modest"...? :confuse3:

There is no reason why you would need to have 2" eyepiece at those focal lengths. FOV is only limited by the barrel size only at longer focal lengths. To give you an idea:

At and under 20mm the 1.25" barrel is large enough to support am 80 degree or larger FOV; at 24mm and under: 65 degrees. At 32mm you are limited to 50 degrees max and you will need a 2" barrel if you want more FOV.

The Stratus and Hyperion eyepieces would be a good widefield choices if you are on a budget (these are actually 1.25"/2" hybrids). They have a large 68 degree FOV and big eye lenses with very comfy eye relief. At around $200 ea still not small change but they are the least expensive widefields that will work well in a fast Newt/Dob.

2"-only EPs also have the disadvantage of needing 2" filters which can get expensive if you ever develop a taste for nebula filters.

Crissara, if you still want a 2" eyepiece, I have one of the best, the 17mm Nagler T4, in mint condition, for sale for the next few days only at a good price: one that you can be pretty confident you will recover if you ever decide to resell it. I just ordered a couple of Baader Hyperion EP's for use with my dob. After a week or so of soul-searching I came down in favour of them. They are basically Vixen Lanthanum clones - you may know them as Orion Stratus though. Best I could do I thought with an f/4.8

What dob do you have?

Not Vixen Lanthanum aka LV, but Vixen Lanthanum Wide angle, aka LVW. They are good EPs as are the clones.
