3rd night out with my new LX90. Previously shot some open clusters, thought I'd have a go at my first nebula last night, gotta say I'm pretty pleased with the result. Any feedback, advice, scorn, praise or other response appreciated.

First nebula, WOW, very good capture mate! (although the link produces image in a very low resolution ...)
When you processed images in DSS did you use image calibration?

Have done a bit more color manipulation and brought out a little more detail.

In terms of calibration I used dark frames and bias frames but haven't got the hang of flat frames or dark flats yet. Going to experiment with the white t shirt at dusk method this evening.
Rob,
I rotated your image by roughly -40deg, so now the image is following the nebula (see attached a slightly modified your image – hope you don’t mind).
In your current framing you loose the chance to cover more of M8.
Next time when you align the camera orientate it in such a way that the bright cluster of stars is almost right in the centre and the two brightest stars to the right – almost at x-axis.

Nice going Rob!
Nothing like that first nebula image, and I see Ian P has given you some good advice.
Keep it up!
Cheers,
Justin.

Good advice on the framing of the picture. I can't talk about that I've been assessed by a psychologist as not having an esthetic bone in my body. But the doctor wouldn't tell my wife that. I just leave the camera in a north south alignment and try to catch those pesky photons.
Your first nebula image leaves mine in the dust. And I might say currently gives me something to aim for. Well done.
Processing is the next hurdle but fine focus and guiding are deal breakers when they are not sorted. Could someone text me that before my next imaging run next week.
Justin.
