Hi guys

Here's a few pics of the DMK and Atik manual filter wheel. I can't seem to be able to connect the DMK to the filter wheel - I seem to be missing an adapter?

Pics 1 and 2 are the DMK and associated bits. Pic 1 shows the DMK with it's little adapter and end cap. The rubber end cap comes out and a 1.25" adapter ("A" in pic 3) can screw into it and plug into the powermate.

The screw adapter on the DMK can also unscrew for a different type of thread.

Pic 2 shows the firewire hub and PCMCIA card for my laptop, and the mess of cables.

Pic 3 shows the front of the filter wheel, that faces OUT from the telescope. The DMK needs to screw into "C" somehow with a locking ring adapter which I don't appear to have.

I can use "A" to screw into the DMK which can go in the powermate, or the missing locking thread adapter.
"B" appears to screw into the back of the filter wheel and goes into the powermate.

Pic 4 shows the back of the filter wheel. If I unscrew "D", I can screw "B" into it. This will allow it to fit in the powermate, and the powermate has the locking screw to hold it in place.

So I think i'm missing some kind of locking adapter that will hold the camera to the front of the filter wheel.

Make sense? Am I missing something?

Where can I get such an adapter? I'll email Steve Mogg and ask him to take a look at this thread, too.

Mike,
measure the thread size of the Atik. While it is guesswork from your pictures, I suspect that the Atik would be T thread size, (about 42mmx.75??).
If so Steven Mogg does indeed cater for you.
You would need a C - T adaptor. This would get the camera onto the Atik.
Then you would need a T to 1.25" (or 2") adaptor, and once again he does these.
If all else fails he can/will make an adaptor as required.

Mike,

Looks like the DMK has a Female C-Mount on the front. The Filter wheel should be able to mount to a female T-Thread. Which is what the D cap is, I would think.

So you would need a C to Female T-Thread adapter. I make these as C-TF adapters under accessories at: http://moggadapters.com

Mike, where did you get the PCMCIA card from? That is just what I need to firewire connect the Nexstar3 HDD to the laptop rather than using USB2. I'm dropping to many frames going from ToUcam to N3 atm. (sorry if this is a bit off topic)

Thanks Steve, I've emailed you.

Paul, I got this one (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3710&item=6889267696).

It works fine, although the power cable for it (which plugs into USB2 or PS2 port) doesn't appear to work, at least not for the firewire camera. The cable is also not long enough for me, as the PCMCIA card is on the opposite side of the laptop from the USB2 port, so it doesn't reach without getting in the way.

The card itself seems to work fine. I just use a Belkin firewire hub to power the DMK.

Mike - hope you sort out the adaptor issue, there may be more to follow you. The ATIK's certainly the only sanely priced filter wheel option I can see. Wonder if Steve might see a market for a manual filter-wheel motor add-on:D ?
