UHC filters - useful for imaging as well as visual?

Hi all, a novice question that I have been wondering about, but one that may also help other beginners.

Will a UHC filter enhance astro-photos of nebulae taken with an DSLR like it enhances the view through an eyepiece?

I ask this as I am thinking of purchasing one and don't want to make a mistake of having to wrongly use it for imaging if it is really only for visual assistance.

I have just received a EOS300D that has been astro modified, but haven't had a chance to give it a try as yet.

If you already have an astro modified camera and shoot with fairly dark skies, a filter will just slow you down. If you have some mild to moderate light pollution then something like a CLS filter may help.

The other thing with UHC filters is that they are not all designed for photography. Ones that will work for single shot colour need to have passbands at both OIII / green and Ha / red. Some brands of UHC only pass the green part of the spectrum. They are fine for visual use but lack enough spectrum for single shot colour that photography needs.
