OK boys and girls,

it's time to let you in on the big news! Yes, for the last few weeks ASIGN Observatory II has been gearing up to get ready for the TV crew from Australia's very own Better Homes and Gardens!

Miracle after miracle has been pouring in from friends, family, work mates and even total strangers from the internet giving their time, some generous donations and unfailing support. Not only that, but the timing of all of these things has been absolutley perfect as if by divine design - right down to the TV being donated the day after the electricity was all connected.

The crew arrived this afternoon and straight away, my nerves about meeting celebrities were put at ease as these very professional individuals were so down to earth. Russell and the film and sound guys were brilliant to work with and my eyes were opened at some of their film tricks and equipment. More on that when you see the show.

Johanna Griggs was as friendly, happy and graceful as you could imagine. I felt very at-ease with her questions in the on-camera interviews. The make-up lady was as much a part of the team, engaging as the rest while she powdered my shiny nose under the lights.

My darling wife worked like a trooper, baking biscuits for the team. They absolutely loved them.

Being a man left to his own devices without the guidance of his good wife, I goofed big as is my manly custom and right! There was a platter of bread on the bench which I took outside with the cakes. How was I supposed to know that there was a plate of cheese and salami in the fridge to go with it? You know... being a man and all.....

Anyways, watch out for the show on the 11th of October at 7pm on channel Seven. I'll post up links once they have it on their website after the show.

Thanks again to all who have made this possible. You know who you are.

Cheers and blessings!!!

Baz.

Schweet!

Can't wait for that one!

You will have to put in some parking meters in the street after all the publicity diverts Joe Public and his family from Questacon to ASIGN II.....:)

JG is a bit of a hottie, I'm not jealous.......much. :D

Cheers

Sometimes I feel like I'm a little too serious in front of a camera, but hopefully Johanna's experience in handling the guests put me at ease.

Thanks mate!

She's the kind of bird you feel like you could just sit and have a coffee with and be instant friends.

Just be good to her mate and try to include her in your building plans.

Thanks for watching mate!

Hmmm... I don't think I can handle that many on the observation deck.... ;)

They shot a fair bit of footage but I guess they showed enough as air time is very valuable. I'm very grateful to have had the privilege of being on their show.

Thanks mate. Around $12K I've tallied all my receipts not including the telescope gear itself. Saved a TON by doing the majority of the building myself and only getting professionals in where the skill required exceeds my qualifications. Lots of people donated little bits of money here and there, plus lots of material and accessories were also donated.

Strange that the same fellow appeared in Manspace Magazine with me a couple of years ago with the first observatory.

Thanks for watching mate. Hopefully when they send me the footage, I might get a little extra raw footage for my website.

My pleasure mate. ;) Glad I could help!

Great to see your ob on tv last night, although it was too short for my liking! Now maybe if you'd played a piano in your observatory...:D

Missed it last night Barry, but it's available on their website this morning. Something to be justifiably proud of - hope the educational aspects of your project are successful. Pity the producers "strive for mediocrity" in their editing, giving the public what they want - hence why the cars won out!

Just watched the episode this morning Baz, awesome stuff mate, your man cave Observatory looks even better than in the stills I've seen here on IIS :eyepop: brilliant!....I'm afraid that Ralphs garage full of limited edition cars trumps even your observatory though :jawdrop: I wonder if he received any donations to complete his man cave

Your fame is spreading . I have just got back from a astronomy night at a southside school and some of the mums at my scope mentioned that they watched a TV show with a dome in an astronomer's front yard.
