Time for a little bit of boasting. :D

I entered the AIPP APPAs this year.

I submitted three entries, and, two got a silver gong. :)

Sadly, the one I thought that would do well, didn't: http://users.tpg.com.au/hqureshi2/tir.html

Next year's goal: silver with distinction. :D

Congratulations Humayun.

I am not familiar with the structure of the competition but regardless silvers sound impressive

I can see why Silent Moments may have got up over Twighlight is my Robe, to me it just looks so natural and crisp, even the water is not blurred but not frozen motionlessness either, it just looks like it is moving, it's like I am standing at an open window looking at the scene with my own eyes - a lovely photo.

Hi H,

All wonderful photos and congratulations!

I have an extended family member who has done well with the AIPP awards
over the years, particularly landscapes, so I have been able to get a small
sense of the types of images the judges tend to favour. No doubt you have too
if you look at the past winning entries.

Your first one I see in a heartbeat that it is something they tend to like.

Though the second one is an absolute cracker of an image, beautifully
composed, well lit and so on, it seems to me that for some reason
they seem to favour images more like your first one where you are painting with light. :)

Me? I think they are all fantastic.

Best Regards

Well Done H,

I was at the Digital Imaging show in Melbourne yesterday...I noticed a whole bunch of awards winning prints were on display...... per chance your work was there?

Thank you so much, everyone for your kind words and support. :)

Mike, yeah, I hear you! From now on, I'll try and capture water movement in fast-flowing rivers like in this image. Even if I have to blend exposures to maintain noise-free (low ISO) quality for the rest of the image and faster exposure for water.

Gary, you're right. I have the last 8 year's worth of APPA books with the winning images. The judges look for abstract or innovative work. Sadly, traditional landscapes aren't conducive to winning awards as they're just run of the mill images, regardless of what the photographer may have endured to get the shot. They want to see narrative and innovation. In Australian competitions, the term "landscape" is very loosely adhered to -- buildings and other non-human elements are fair game. As a purist, it's a bit annoying. But, then again, I don't make photos to enter awards and competitions, I take them for me. :)

Chris, I haven't entered into APOD. But, I might just do that on your suggestion!

Peter, I am not sure if they were showing at the show, but, I do know they were shown at the convention centre where the awards were being judged. :)

Cheers!
