I did 10x10min in the morning before sunrise after shooting the pleiades at the same FL. This was with the QHY8 at prime focus on the GSO8" F/4 Newtonian.

Few technical issues with it. I originally planned at home before packing the MPCC spacing with the OAG in between and everything was setup just to find out on the first night that I couldn't rack the focuser in enough to reach focus. So the following day I re-arrange it as best as I could with the bits I had in hand but the spacing was all wrong. Still sort of ok on axis and some nice resolution.

Big one here (https://public.bn1.livefilestore.com/y2pHoplbr9_Kowgp-NvPK3QAOw_TGRDdvOnXe_YNes7Ls4mEQ9vG mtWMAyZeCn-XTB6f3JhrNE6PcWMRk9F7URLfQR9PpjkXnO SMtbMbACHX3c/M42_GSO8_fff.jpg?psid=1). Thanks for looking.

Despite the challenges it sure shows potential Marc.

Ripper nice Marc and very encouraging, I cant wait to get some of the darker dust with the QHY. Also, them stars look a lot more pinpoint than what my Dslr produces ?
Great result, just need some short subs to fill the core, but yeah, I dig the depth you've achieved here, Nice going

Despite the obvious short comings the over all look is very pleasing and was worth a look....sure beats waste of time banter about the NBN huh? Brought Cranky Doug out of the woodwork though

Thanks Peter. Yeah I'm looking forward to more.

Thanks Bob. The seeing was excellent which helped. I didn't bother doing any shorter subs for the core. They're all 10min.

Thanks Greg. Well I should have checked it at home and not assume it would work on the field. My bad.

Thanks Erik. Yeah you don't get much time before sunrise but it's getting a lot higher now.

Thanks mate. Yeah not worth getting agro about politics. Life's too short. All good fun though.

Nice one Marc! It's already that season again... maybe I'll get my 12.5" scope up and running just in time for a M42 image (I've never really done a proper one).
Thanks for the view :)

Thanks Rick.

Thanks Rod.

Thanks Jo. It's the MPCC reflection on the QHY8 nosepiece. I usually alway take it off for that reason. Another thing I forgot to do.

Thanks mate. Me neither. Always room for improvement. :)

Thanks Ray. I hope it's minor.

great finer detail in the outer areas.
I have just discovered the joys of guiding and i hope to achieve this level of detail :)

Argg! that time of the year again. Celestial seasons come around so fast. Great start to the season too Marc. This year will be the first time I image M42 assuming I get around to it. Hard to believe I've not imaged it before. Well done. The onslaught of M42 images now officially begins...

Thanks Steve. You will in no time. Guiding will help you getting the faint outer shells.

 Yep, it's back. Until M8 comes back next year with a sprinkle of Eta Carina in the meantime. I can't believe you've never imaged it. Seriously? You never even had a peek at it?

Thanks Paul. Colors aren't bad.

Thanks Sandy. No NB, just straight color with an OSC (QHY8).

Great detail and nice, natural colours.

You've got that new telescope performing better and better!
