Hi, anyone know what the "real life" difference is between, say, Jupiter at 46.1º and 36.2º? And does the relative size increase detail seen through a scope? (Using an 8" Dob) Thanks all!:)

Hey Shaun,

Really like your user name, its something I say to myself everytime I am under clear dark skies.

As to your question, 10 seconds of arc difference in diameter will not be so noticeable in your scope. Of course it is better to observe Jupiter when it appears at its largest, but the seeing conditions will have far more bearing on what detail you can see through your 8".

Different story with Mars, where the diameter may vary from around 6" to 25"
