Hey all, just come across this article (http://www.universetoday.com/104554/huge-asteroid-324-bamberga-makes-a-return-visit-to-earths-neighborhood-on-friday-the-13th/) which talks about 324 Bamberga.

Does anyone think it would be worthwhile heading out of the city to try and photograph this using a 10" newt?
I'm very new to astronomy / astrophotography so im not sure what to expect at all :ashamed:

Also found this live tracking site for the asteroid - http://theskylive.com/bamberga-tracker

Anyway ill be out there giving it a go one way or another! :)
Lets just hope the clouds don't roll in!

You shouldn't need to leave the city to photograph an asteroid.... at mag 8 you'll see it OK....

Did you find it Chances?

Despite its reltive closeness, it is still crawling along and should be well positioned for a long while. I swung onto it tonight as it sits beside a thirteenth mag star. Unfortunately it's in a bit of unintresting space at the moment so may be harder to pick up visually, but keep on searching if you haven't spotted it!

Bah! everything's wet lol.

Not sure if I've found it, been taking many photos but haven't had a good look at the full res pics yet, its still clicking away now. Ill re-position it one more time and take a few more shots before I call it a night.

Still not sure I got it pointed at the right spot ;)
I was hoping I would take a bunch of shots and catch it on the move, but it seems like it moves rather slow...
