Not sure if this is suitable here but I thought I would post it.

The City to Bay is the largest annual fun run held in Adelaide each year and is on next again weekend. Our family is part of a team raising money for HeartKids SA, an organisation that supports children who have heart conditions. Our one year old daughter Charlotte was diagnosed with Wolff–Parkinson–White syndrome at two weeks of age. It's a condition which causes an increase in heart rate, in Charlotte's case, it reached a peak of about 320bpm! This condition is caused by an accessory pathway in the heart.

Charlotte is currently on medication but still has the occasional event. She has regular checkups with the cardiologist to monitor her progress. She will eventually have surgery (ablation) to burn the extra pathway. This will happen in either Melbourne if she's under 18 as Adelaide doesn't have the facilities, or in Adelaide once she reaches 18.

We were introduced to HeartKids SA when Charlotte was in ICU at the Women's and Children's Hospital and they have given us wonderful support since that point on. We are hoping to raise some money to continue to allow HeartKids SA to support other children and their families.

After Charlotte's heart condition was diagnosed, I decided that I wanted to move away from sleep research into the cardiology field. I was fortunate enough to get a job as a cardiac technician earlier this year. Part of my job is to assist with ablation studies, such as those in Wolff–Parkinson–White patients. Hopefully one day I will be there for Charlotte when she has her surgery done.

Hey Dan, Hope Charlotte is doing well. I have sent $50 on her behalf.
Having been through the worries of my wife's SVT and her sudden pulse rates of over 250 beats a minute I know a little of what you are dealing with.
My wife underwent Radio Frequency Ablation a few years ago and although she still gets a few flutters every now and then, it is nothing compared to before. Good luck with the future.

I hope that you get a few guys chipping in as I think it is such an important cause to give these little ones a fair chance at a normal life.

Cheers,
Matt

Wow Matt! Thanks so much for that! It was great speaking with you via PM a few months back about what your wife went through with the same condition :)

Hi Dan...

All the best for the journey ahead with your little one.

Having a Daughter myself and my best friend suffering from a similar condition, Charlotte's story has touched my heart :)

Thank you for bringing this important cause to our attention and reminding us to donate to a cause we may not normally think to.

I have donated $50.
I hope you raise much more.

Bella Charlotte :)

Kind regards,
Nicole

That's very kind of you Nicole. Thanks so much!

One thing I must add is that HeartKids not only supports families locally, they also assist families travel to Melbourne for kids who require heart surgery.
