Hi folks, I was reading about the progress of this years comets, with high hopes! and I thought I would dig up an image I toot back in 96-97 of Hale Bopp while Living in Canda, not digital, good old asa 800 Kodak film! I think it was 90mm at f2.8 for 25-30 seconds. I took quite few 'till I got it right, you could see the comet in the city under street lights, it was a beauty, I hope we get some great views this year, cheers Graham

Nice shot Graham.

I remember Hale Bopp well. This one favoured the northern hemisphere as we didn't get the brilliant tail that was seen in the north. Still, it was the brightest comet I've seen. It's not often we see a comet that can compete with the Moon.

This was taken on May 5 1997 with Fuji 400 and a 135mm f2.8 lens.

Yes it was a very bright event and being in the northern hemisphere did add to the experience, your image gives the viewer a great comparison with the moon. Many comets are visually washed out due to moon glow, thanks for posting the image and lets hope ison puts on a memorable show, cheers
