Ok I am a Astroholic – after a very recent commitment to purchase a very lovely Moravian 8300 Mono camera plus the works, I get to having a brows around the net. I nearly fell over when I saw this http://www.astrobuysell.com/au/propview.php?view=2347

One of the members of my Astro society purchased one of these last year – and I don’t think there any change under 4k for the scope. LOL I could use the scope and toss the mount away…

wonder if he is a member of IIS or an astro society?

I understand that you are facing some deep, personal issues with "Astronomical Gear Acquisition Syndrome”, commonly known as AGAS within the specialist medical fraternity.:(

I sympathise; I too used to suffer from the wretched ailment and it took me several years of striving to finally overcome the addiction.:)

How did I break the addiction? Well, it was tough but in the end I took a sabbatical and retired to a cave, at high altitude, in the Himalayas and commenced a process of deep cleansing from material desires and possessions.:)

After 3 or 4 months of meditation, existing on bowls of rice and the pure water from the upper reaches of the Ganges, not to mention freezing my butt off in an ice-clad, stark and at times lonely cave, I discovered my true self which liberated me from AGAS in a blinding and beautiful moment of enlightenment.:thumbsup:

I saw that I was born with no astronomical equipment and that when it was time to shuffle off my mortal coil, I would leave all my worldly possessions, needs and wants behind and that in truth, these things are burdens as they delude us into believing that we need them to validate who we are, to lead a useful life as defined by society.

Now, I often roll around amidst my telescopes, mounts, CCD cameras and plethora of digital devices just to show them who is in charge!:lol:

David I reckon you need to sort out your imaging goals. You have more crap (I mean astro related gear) than I have ever seen anyone own. Especially after seeing shots of your trailer loaded up the to max.

Personally if you are a gear head but want to do imaging then work on systems you want to buy. Otherwise you are just buying stuff for the sake of buying it. Plan of attack is the way to go. ;)

Mind you, you could just continue to collect stuff and next year you will be sporting a semi trailer to carry it all there. :P

Oh you misunderstand me – no more scopes, no more mounts ;) I have entered the world of CCD only because my beloved cooled 40D’s are no more . I have reduced the amount of cr@p – honest…:rofl:


Probably need to trim down in some areas, will leave a mount for visual and for travel, but I still have the wonderful fully portable eq8 ;) as seen at astrofest….

Dave, might not be Astroholicism, you may just have a bad case of Spendthrift Fever, if so there's only one known cure and that's to spend your way out of it.

Seriously though, some people get joy from just owning what they want if you get satisfaction from having these toys then that's all that matters.

I just don't understand this need for so much astrogear and so many telescopes. I have set myself a limit of one (yet to be made) reflector and my 5 refractors. I see no need to give in to astroholism at all.


....oh better make that 6 refractors :astron: (just picked up a beautiful TakFS60CB last night ..... :2thumbs: )

I find the best cure for these addictions is a long cool dark night under the stars. Near other people with lots of expensive toys I'll fall in love with :lol:
