Anyone received that email going around that shows the Hubble image of
The Helix Nebula and procalims that it is some profound object only
able to be imaged with the god given grandure of The Hubble Space
Telescope?

Well here is a non Hubble colaborative effort between the master
astrophotographer Wolfgang Promper and myself. As you can see one
doesn't need hubble to see this plain'ol planetary in Aquarius, in all
its glory huh? :D

Thanks Tony

I am VERY pleased with how this one turned out. One cannot beat good optics and quality data, both my Ha and Wolfgangs RGB were top quality so the image reflects this I recon..? My Halpha component could "always" have done with a couple more hours or so though...ah, maybe next time?

This is not how it always turns out of course :-)

Yes, I've seen that email.

My congratulations for doing your bit to dispell this fledgling urban myth / hoax.

...and my admiration at your ability to produce simply beautiful images!

Well Mike, I vote that we should put you in charge of the Hubble telescope. Your results speak for them selves. Great stuff.

Hi Mike

Now that the Hubble camera appears to have "stopped working", maybe you could apply for the job?

Stunning image.

Cheers

I think everything has been said....Been looking at this image trying to find faults for a while now and have come to the conclusion that to improve it get a bigger CCD chip.....would have liked to have seen the whole Neb...thats all I can find...hehehe

Thankyou all for the positive feedback on my Eye of God Helix Nebula image

I have taken a lot of images to date, some pretty good and some not as good but this one has something special about it. I'm not exactly sure what it is but the inference of being hit in the eye by it (by Ving) is a good one I think. :-)

Happy imaging

Mike
