Good seeing yesterday morning and I worked out the issues I had with this monster sensor. Turns out the glass pane in front of the sensor was causing the problems.

Excellent results Paul, the details, tones and texture in the full disc are gorgeous and the prominences complete the masterpiece.:)

I suspect you would be very happy that it’s a single pane and not a multi-hour guzzling mosaic!;)

Looks great, Paul! You must be pleased with that. Was it the sensor cover slip causing problems? What did you do to fix this?

Rick, yeah I removed that. Be warned though doing so voids warrantee I am told. The cover slip glass is probably very flat but it might only be a smidge out of orthogonal and this could cause some back reflections. The cover slip does not look to have any anti reflection coatings on it and I suspect this is what is causing the grief.

Dennis, no more mosaics is the aim of the game here but in perfect seeing, I think a mosaic at say 4 panels might produce exceptional results. Perhaps even astounding. Yesterdays seeing was the best I have seen since April this year. With the warmer and dryer conditions on the way I can hopefully get some more nice data before maximum is over.

Thanks Ralph. Everything is all about real estate and this ought put to rest comments about frame rates. Even Alan Friedman who is acknowledged as being the best solar imager on the planet in Ha uses a large format sensor with only about 9pfs. He uses just 30 frames in each image. So speed is not always going to work.
