A new Sony 35mm 34.8mp CCD. It was only a matter of time now Kodak has exited the scene.

If its anything like their latest smaller CCDs it could be really nice sensor.

Article is dated in 2009. If the chip was a mover and shaker, it would have made its way into the astro imaging realm by now. Alas I've heard nothing about it in the last four years.

Is that rumour for the chip now in the Nikon D800 and D800E? IIRC Nikon had an exclusive deal so Sony couldn't even use it in their own a99. That has a 24Mpx chip.

No this is a CCD chip and D800 uses a 36.3mp CMOS.
It was intended for a movie camera and also some security camera per the article on it.
