I was wondering if anyone has any experience while washing their primary mirror and in the process happened to drench their azmeth encoder in their mirror box?
With the new 10,000 encoders will they be damaged in any way?
Just curious.

Meth is water soluble. Not that I would know ;) :) :D

Seriously though, I would be a bit worried about getting any water on an azimuth encoder. I am sure they would be dew resistant, but I seriously doubt a drenching would be good for them.

 I agree with Lewis on this , a little dew should not hurt but drenching the with water might not hurt them as such at the time , but it would cause corrosion on the contacts ( water and electricity don't mix ) that would cause all sorts of problems later on , keep the dry Robbo .

BY the way , you need to remove the mirrors for cleaning anyway .

Actually - for mirrors this large you are starting to incur more risks by removing them. The obsession website has some good info on cleaning the primary in-situ. I clean mine once a year in place, but go to lots of trouble to keep water away from the encoders.
Contact cleaner and lubricant spray where the telephone jack plugs in would be my next step.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Thanks for all the advise, I can now see the dangers of mixing water and electrics, causing possible corrosion. I'le remain being super diligent on future mirror cleans. I agree it's a bit of a hassle taking the mirror out everything I clean it. I'le need more gym work to do that. Lol.
Cheers, Peter.

What I normally do is put plenty of towels in the bottom of the rocker case and over the encoder and any plugs ect.
Dew is not a problem, Water is.
