Another so-so Saturn 6/3/2005

Hey guys.

I'm losing interest in imaging Saturn with the dob. I just can't get seeing good enough to get a clear crisp image.

Anyway I hadn't posted anything in a while, cause I hadn't been imaging for a while (clouds).. went out for 30 minutes last night and got this one.

Seeing was fairly ordinary, very hard to see the cassini division on the preview screen. My wobbly cassini is back!

Anyway it's not great but it's something.

you know you are going to have to get a tracking base dont you mike. still, I think its a good pic. could the blue be toned down a bit? just seems a bit too blue :)

I have tried Saturn & Jupiter on many occasions lately. The seeing has just been terrible, and I have given up in digust.. At least you persevere and have something to show for your efforts...
I'm hoping Jupiter will come right in the next couple of months. Saturn is history!

As Robby said, maybe its time to just let Saturn go Mike and move on. Jupiter has a month till opposition - so plenty of opportunities there for a while yet... Mars is slowly making its way around... Goodbye to one challange and hello to another....

Good effort Mike, much better than any of my Saturn images. I was out last night trying to collimate my scope, seems it moved a bit since installing it on the pier and I have an Orion mirror diag now which has upset the collimation. Anyway after giving up with the collimation, I went and had a look at both Saturn and Jupiter. Even though it was a cool clear evening the seeing was pretty loosy.Under a barlow banding was just present but the image was dancing all over the place. Jupiter is looking much larger in the EP and getting very bright. In less than a month Jupiter will be at opposition and this should give you a great target to work toward. Even in a 12.4mm EP banding is visible to the NEB, SEB and polar belts.

The bottom line is that your imaging has come a long way, and for a dob you are getting better images that some scopes with tracking. Jupiter will no doubt present you with the next challenge, which I am sure you will grasp with both hands. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the encouragement guys, and I do think it's time to give up on Saturn this year.. it's just too low.
