Recommended Computer Monitors

Hello everyone :)
I wasn't sure what forum category to ask this in so I thought I should ask here first.
What is the best, most ideal or recommended computer monitor to use if you are serious about astrophotography or photography in general?
About 3 years ago I purchased a desktop computer and monitor with the prerequisite that it ( the monitor ) was the best I could get for photo editing, and paid A LOT for the 24" monitor alone.
The monitor, I discovered, had such a narrow viewing angle, that what I spent hours in front of the computer editing to look its best looked like rubbish on any other screen – or not visible at all! - or, as I found out, if I moved away from my seated image editing position, everything changed – brightness, contrast, colour saturation etc.I did my own research and came to the conclusion I needed an IPS ( In Plane Switching ) monitor, and purchased a 24" IPS monitor and I think it is a far superior monitor to what I had.I would be very interested in hearing what other imagers/photographers are using or would recommend.Kind Regards,DarrenPS – I didn't mention the actual brands as I am not brand biased and I do not wish to disrespect either company over one single product.

High res, wide gamut IPS screens are a treat for image editing. You get great viewing angles, vibrant colours and heaps of real estate (everything fits on screen, less scrolling).

The Dell ultrasharp range is excellent. I would recommend them. A little bit pricey but worth every dollar.

+1 for IPS. I immediately noticed the difference myself. Not everyone would but I am very fussy. Also, I prefer a 16:10 ratio. I find it a bit more natural to look at, plus it allows the dock/task bar to be out of the way and visible and still run full screen 16:9 video.

I have a Dell which I am very happy with. Samsung have a good reputation at the moment in screens. If ever I switched brands it would probably be Samsung.

If you like Dell and can wait, decide what you want and watch their website. They have 3 day sales regularly. My monitor was normally about $399 but I got it for $279.

For the money, I've used both of these and both are excellent with viewing angles and colour reproduction. Both are IPS and feature higher than usual resolutions.
The extra resolution is a must, and these both calibrate for very, very accurate colour.

I've got 2 24" Samsung 1920x1200 monitors. Love them. I wish I:
1) had space on my desk to set them both up, and
2) could find the fault in one PC that stops it driving any monitor bigger than 1080 (the video card does support higher than 1920).

:) I have a Compaq Q2009 and its the best I have ever used , had it now for a few years and it just keep on keeping on , no strain after hours of work a nice monitor but don't know if they are still made , shame if not .
Mine trumps the Samsungs at work .

Just to clarify, my Dell monitor is one of their Ultra monitors. Can't comment about any of their other ones.

I thought I will put this in ,,,
I have a 50 inch LG , LED TV and plugged my lap top into it one night :eyepop: whew ! I loved it but the rest of the family wanted to watch some TV instead , I was voted out , so back to the Q2009 ,,,:rofl:.

After some research I got a Dell U2410 and it seems quite nice, so much so I wish I'd spent the extra $300 and got the 27". Unfortunately I haven't done enough photo editing to even justify this one. I'm no expert but it is clearly better than the cheaper Dell I have at work.
