Hi Guys

Ive decided to start working on a new tutorial on HaRGB blending with PS with some old data.

Before I start I would like some honest opinions on my blending results, and even whether Its a good idea or not seeing results on differing objects can be so varied.

Then, there is personal preference on color with blending so,this might be just a futile attempt which might do more harm than good...not sure?maybe there's just no interest out there either.

Anyway, here is the result of my technique and looking forward to hearing what people think about the results and whether a tutorial would be worthwhile producing.

Stay Well everyone!

Data details: L=2 hrs,Ha=2hrs and 1.5hrs RGB.

Nice one Louie. Colour can be subjective as you suggest. There is no right or wrong, but there is aesthetic. I quite like what you've put together but in my opinion the Ha should 'glow' a little more. The Ha really steps off and darkens too quickly. You really nail the star colours very well. So what was the Ha blend technique you used?

Hi Jase

Thanks for your input mate! much appreciated.

Well,I totally agree with your assessment, there was no where near enough Ha data so very noisy in fainter outer areas, although I still could of brightened the extended legs of the Tarantula.

The stars?well you know that lighten blend modes lets the stars form the layer below shine through Jase....no secret,at least It shouldn't be.

"There is no right or wrong, but there is aesthetic"

I have to think about this view a bit mate.I understand what your saying here, but I also understand that If your brightness levels ain't right you wont end up with the right result? which would be aesthetically pleasing result, yes?

The blending is the usual Ha in Red channel and Lum/Ha blend for a super luminance to be layered, again no big secret.

What I find interesting(or sometimes frustrating) is how differing object behave differently to the amount of Ha blended. eg:The North America Neb

Anyway thanks again for your time Jase,Its always enlightening talking with you mate!

Hi Louie,

I like the look of your Tarantula. I have found it a difficult object to photograph. I have tried it many times over the last 4 years and have never been happy with the result.

I look forward to a tutorial from you on HaRGB. Most of my astroimaging experience has been with an OSC ccd. I do have a monochrome ccd that I use to take Ha photos. It would be great to be able to combine the two.

If this tutorial is of the calibre of your previous ones, combining Ha with RGB will be a skill that I will learn very quickly.

I look forward to your tutorial Louie, as I'm sure many others will.

Thank you for the generous way you share your skills and knowledge.

Ross.
